Bird of Prey Destroyed in " Gin Trap " Sussex Police Serial 986 of 25/10/09.
Following the finding of the remains of a beautiful Tawny Owl, on the footpath 23a, in the Walland area of Wadhurst, and also following reports of a high velocity rifle being discharged at night, and a detailed investigation by the RSPCA & RSPB and Sussex Police, the conclusion drawn to, was that this Bird of Prey was destroyed in a " Gin Trap ". The legs and head were severed by this trap. The land owners & farmers nearby have been informed of these findings & traps.
Due to this, an alert to members of the public using paths or land in the Walland areas, to be careful where their dogs or children might roam, and to be very vigilant for further TRAPS that may well have been set, that could seriously harm / injure your child or dog.
Please DO NOT CONFRONT anybody you might see setting these TRAPS or acting suspiciously in this area, just take details and look for an unfamiliar vehicle, taking the registration number and details of this vehicle, and report to the police immediately. THANKYOU.
*** Police Appeal For Witnesses For Road Traffic Collision ( RTC ) in the early hours of 04/04/2009, Wadhurst Road, Frant. Very sadly the driver has died. ***

Please be on the look out for suspicious / strange vehicles travelling the lanes, and if a so called water company vehicle is seen, especially a sub contractor style vehicle, please take it's number, description of vehicle & occupants, they may not be there to check for water leaks. ( you can always ring the water company to check if they have operatives in your area ).
If you see a suspicious vehicle, especially one you are not happy about, sitting near someone's home, farm or business, they may well be watching the movements of the people at the property, with plans to break in when they go out, or in a few days time, or even over night. Please alert the farms near to you, as they may not receive the crime messages, such as this one.
Please ring Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 or in emergency 999, Sussex Police are always happy to take your calls, despite how small the incident may seem to you. Your call just might hold a missing piece of the " picture ".

*** POSTAL SCAM WARNING !!!!
ANOTHER Postal Scam.....
Can you circulate this around
especially as Xmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the
following scam : -
A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS ( Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.
If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call.
If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at
www.icstis.org.uk
UPDATE 17/10/08.
Trading Standards said ‘This is quite an old "alert" The actual line was closed down in 2005 and the operator of the service was fined. I have attached a link to the PhonePay Plus statement about this trader and hope it answers your questions.’
http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk/pdfs_news/PostalScam2007.pdf
*** Postal Scam Update.......
Several of our members have said that the link to Postal Scam info from Trading Standards didn’t work. On this basis I have decided to type it here for in it’s full glory.
‘A statement from PhonepayPlus about the current “Postal Scam” chain mail PhonepayPlus, the phone-paid service regulator, is aware that a chain e-mail about an alleged postal scam is being circulated on the internet. The email refers to the Royal Mail, Trading Standards and ICSTIS (PhonepayPlus’ former name).
PhonepayPlus appreciates that recipients of the email may want to find out more information about the alleged scam and has therefore issued the following statement:
The chain email refers to a service that was shut down by us in December 2005.
We subsequently fined the company that was operating the service, Studio Telecom (based in Belize), £10,000.
The service is NO LONGER running and has NOT been running since December 2005.
The email refers to a £15 charge for simply being connected to a recorded message. This is NOT TRUE – a £15 connection charge does NOT exist. The service in question actually costs £1.50 per minute and lasted six minutes, making a total cost of £9 if callers stayed on the line for the full six minutes.
You do NOT need to contact us, or the Royal Mail, about this service as it was stopped almost two years ago.
If you receive a copy of the email warning you about the alleged scam, please do NOT forward it to others. Instead, please forward this statement from PhonepayPlus.
Please go to www.phonepayplus.org.uk/pdfs_news/ConsumerGuide.pdf for useful information about how to recognise phone-paid and understand what they cost, and some simple tips to help you enjoy using services with confidence.
For more detailed information about our work, please visit www.phonepayplus.org.uk’
I hope that clears up any queries you may have had. In the event of the links not working manually type in the addresses in your ‘address’ bar for the Internet or cut and paste them
*** THERE IS A SIMULAR POSTAL SCAM FROM LAST YEAR AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE.....
*** COUNTERFEIT SCOTTISH BANK NOTES IN CIRCULATION.
Counterfeit Scottish notes £20's & £50's are in circulation, if any persons are asking for notes to be changed then the best policy would be to point them in the direction of the nearest bank. For best practise it would be an idea to adopt a policy to check ALL NOTES when customers are purchasing goods, OR you as a customer check your change.
*** Good News re : Incident on 05.09.07.
Two in custody on suspicion of distraction burglary
On Tuesday 4th August at 5:20pm in Sparrow Green, Wadhurst a male called at the address of an elderly female. The male claimed to live nearby and that he was a friend of the brother of the man next door. The elderly female invited the male in who then asked for some change. The female obliged and went upstairs. The male then asked if he could have a look around upstairs, the elderly lady consented. After finishing his cup of tea the male left. The elderly lady closed her door and then thought about the strangeness of what had just happened to her. She soon discovered that a sum of money had been stolen from her house and that she had been duped by the male.
The elderly female called Police and told them everything she knew. Police arrived and completed detailed enquiries in the local area. Later that night two people were arrested in connection with this crime. Police worked closely with the elderly female, the community and Kent Police and the two are being held in custody pending further enquiries.

!!! LETTER BOMBS.
Public urged to be vigilant following UK letter bomb attacks.
In response to a number of letter bomb attacks in the UK, Sussex Police are working with other police forces in support of their investigations. There is no current intelligence that would indicate a likely attack in Sussex but the Force is urging people to be vigilant. Sussex Police are in contact with local companies, agencies and individuals to provide advice on improving security - particularly when handling incoming mail.
*** Advice and Information Suspicious Post.
I think I may have received a letter bomb... What do I do? Letter bombs - or Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) to give them their technical term - can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Packages the size of paper-back books have been among the more successful. However, although they may be large, they do not need to be bulky and can be found in envelopes as well. If in doubt, do not tamper. It isn't necessary to open an envelope or package in any particular way to initiate an IED. It may just be triggered by an attempt, however slight, to open the outer cover.
