The Sackville Singers have been raising money for local and national charities since 1979 and Anthony Dawson has been Musical Director since 1985. The choir has sung in St John's Smith Square, Blackheath Halls and Canterbury Cathedral, and has established a reputation as one of the finest amateur chamber choirs in the South East. They celebrated their 20th Anniversary with a special birthday concert in the Great Hall of Knole when current and past members of the choir joined in singing Tallis's great 40 part motet, Spem in Alium.
Anthony Dawson started the Sackville Children's Choir in 1991, which shares the main intention: to enjoy making music in a wide variety of styles. The choirs play an important role in the musical life of Sevenoaks, encouraging the performance of music by local composers, performing each year in the Sevenoaks Summer Festival, and regularly giving concerts in Brasted, Knole and throughout West Kent.
